The German minority and the Prague Spring 1968
Kokošková, Petra ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee)
The proposed thesis The German Minority and Prague Spring 1968 focuses on changes in the life of the German population in the territory of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The thesis deals with an influence of reviving process of the Prague Spring on the progress of status of the German minority in the Czechoslovakia, which was marginalized by that time. The author presented a detailed analysis of those events of year 1968, which related to the national minorities policy and led to reception of the constitutional law Nr. 144/1968 Sb., about the status of the national groups in the state. The law acknowledges, for the first time in the post-war history, the same rights for the German minority such as for the other national minorities living in the territory of the Czechoslovakia. The author studies activation of the members of the German minority for the purpose of formation of the cultural association. That was enabled just on the ground of the aforesaid constitutional law. The cultural association was founded and incorporated, among the other social organisations, into the National Front in spring 1969. On the account of an invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops in August 1968 and its consequences, such as background checks and personal changes in Kulturní...
Prague spring 1968 and transitology
Běhal, Filip ; Buben, Radek (advisor) ; Štefek, Martin (referee)
The thesis wil focus on the classical transitology, especially the authors Juan Linz and Alfred Stepan. This theory will be applied on the events and ideas of Prague spring 1968, while the presumption is that these events exactly met the basic condition that an ending regime should start the democratization with certain liberalization. The thesis will analyze and characterize this liberalization in three partially overlapping fields: 1. civic freedom and legality 2. political sphere 3. economics. Considering these factors, the cleavage between the elites of the communist party on reforms and hardliners, will be analyzed. Other points of the analysis include the international context in the Soviet bloc, public support of the reforms in Czechoslovakia, solid institutional organization of the regime and the lack of radical opposition. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and perhaps even vindicate the hypothesis that if there hadn't been the military intervention in August the whole process would have had the best premises to transform into ideal democratization on the border between pact and reform.
Prague Spring and Soviet Intervention in Kadan in 1968
Linhart, Ondřej ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
In my work The Prague Spring and the Soviet Intervention in Kadan in 1968, I dealt with the invasion of soviet soldiers into Kadan. I followed the chronological development of Kadan town in the context of the history of Czechoslovakia in the period after World War II until the days of August 1968. The highlight is the description of the events in Kadan from August 21th 1968, the attitude and manifestations of resistance of the population or city authorities against the occupation. In the final phase, the work deals with the consequences of the occupation in the region. The work is based on the study of reference book on the issue, especially the interpretation of Czechoslovak history and at the regional level from the interpretation of available sources stored in the State District Archive Chomutov based in Kadan - regional press, official documents, photographs. The work is supplemented by the memory of the witness. KEYWORDS Prague Spring, 1968, Kadan, soviet occupation, resistance, memories, culture, history
Interdisciplinary Scientific Teams at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and Charles University in the 1960s
Hoppe, Jiří
The conference paper provides a brief overview of the genesis and activities of four interdisciplinary scientific teams (Šik's team, Richta's team, Machonin's team and Mlynář's team), which significantly co-created social and political dynamics in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in the 1960s. It shows how these teams supported changes and innovations in the way the CPC's leading role was exercised, how they newly analyzed the parameters and limits of the current state system, and how they thought out and inspiringly modeled alternatives for its future.

The diploma thesis focuses on changes of the life of the German minority that was living in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, in connection with the then press. The thesis deals with an influence of the reviving process, which is called Prague Spring and then the period of normalization on the progress of status of the German minority in the Czechoslovakia. The thesis presents events of the year 1968, that are related to the national minorities policy which led to reception of the Constitutional Act No. 144/1968 Coll., about the status of the national groups in the state. I also analyse the activisation of the members of the German minority for the purpose of formation of their cultural association named "Kulturní sdružení občanů ČSSR německé národnosti" (the Cultural association of the citizen of the German nationality in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic), which was enabled on the ground of the aforesaid constitutional law. The text also deals with the start of the period of normalization and its consequences for the German minority. The thesis also analyses the Czechoslovak media at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s with special regard to the only periodical press in the German language called the "Prager Volkszeitung". A very important part of the text is...

Zeman, Jakub ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
Goal of this thesis is to find, if Czechoslovakia in 1968, in the time of so called Prague Spring, could be defined as authoritarian regime. Typological theory of authoritarian regimes by Juan J. Linz is used. Thesis used comparative method for researching similar aspects of functionality of state machinery with aspects of Linz's theory of authoritarian regimes. Main point of interest is limited pluralism, which is most important for verification of Linz's theory in time of Prague Spring.
Mouth on the Latch. The picture of the"dissident ghetto" in the piece of Ludvík Vaculík
SIMŮNKOVÁ, Aneta
The bachelor thesis bearing the title of "Mouth on the Latch" reflects the issues of the czech dissident society in literature between 1968 - 1980. The Material draws from the diary prose of Ludvík Vaculík, from which tries to extract the author's subjective view on the contemporary shape of society. The obtained perspective puts into the context of the time with the regard on the specific selected and related documents. The bachelor thesis also includes an opinion of personalities, which are included into the connection with the listing of latents facts in the book of Ludvík Vaculík. The work aspires for the creation of the coherent image of "dissident ghetto" from the perspective of external contemporary significance and internal view of members of the dissent.
